HARRISBURG – Prior to the summer recess, the PA Senate adopted a resolution recognizing the month of September as Hunger Action Month. A nationwide campaign is underway mobilizing the public to take action against hunger. Organized by the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, the campaign brings greater attention to the issue of hunger in America and promotes ways for individuals everywhere to get involved with the movement to solve it. Lancaster County Sen. Mike Brubaker, who co-chairs the Pennsylvania Legislative Hunger Caucus, sponsored the Hunger Action Month resolution. Everyone is encouraged to wear orange on Thursday, September 4 in support of hunger relief. A new study showed more than 2 million Pennsylvanians in all 67 counties are served annually by Feeding America food banks. The Capitol Hunger Garden in Harrisburg broke ground in 2010 and has since produced thousands of pounds of produce to help feed Pennsylvania’s needy families.
