Good Samaritan Bill Passes PA House Panel

HARRISBURG – The state House Judiciary Committee approved legislation that provides immunity from prosecution to those who report a drug overdose to authorities. Under Senate Bill 1164, to qualify for immunity, a person would need to notify authorities to seek help for the overdose victim and remain with the person until authorities arrive. The immunity would not apply in cases where the person seeking help is charged with a drug-related crime, including delivering a controlled substance or drug-induced homicide. The bill was amended in committee to allow police and firefighters to carry and administer naloxone, a drug overdose antidote. The bill now moves to the full House.
