Prison Sentence For Defrauding Charitable Foundation

HARRISBURG (AP) – A former Bon-Ton Stores Foundation employee has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for stealing $1.3 million from the department store’s charitable organization. A federal judge in Harrisburg imposed the sentence after 53-year-old Christine DeJuliis of York County pleaded guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion charges. The judge also ordered her to pay restitution. DeJuliis, an assistant to the charity’s director, diverted money for nine years from the organization for her own use and failed to pay taxes on her ill-gotten gains. She was fired when the alleged fraud was discovered by foundation officials in July 2009.
