The Amish: Of Renegades, Literature & Healthcare

Three-part educational series on the Amish presented by the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and Garden Spot Village features presenters and panelists who will explore a variety of topics, include the “Bergholz Barbers,” Amish fiction and non-fiction, and unique approaches and issues in Amish healthcare. Mother and Daughter event to celebrate and support our daughters as they cross the threshold to womanhood. An ordinary room is transformed into a beautiful banquet room. Fancy desserts are provided to enjoy during our fun sessions. We close our time together with a special surprise for each girl. Every mother has written a letter beforehand that she will read to her daughter affirming who she is and all she will become. Mom’s will then present each daughter with a white rose representing their beauty & purity. This has proved to be an amazing time of blessing for both Mother & Daughter as words of love & affirmation are spoken & received. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County inviting local companies, friends and families form bowling teams of 4-6 people. Chose a team captain, register and start to earn support to reach their fundraising goals. Prizes are given to teams who raise the most funds and to individuals who are top fund raisers culminating at the Bowl for Kids’ Sake bowl-a-thon. Teams are treated to a party atmosphere including bowling, shoes, pizza, drinks, fun games, music, and fantastic door prizes. The dollars that come to Big Brothers Big Sisters from the pledges made to BFKS participants are pure donations. The bowling event is really a thank you party for volunteers who ask for financial gifts on the behalf of kids who need another caring adult in their lives.
