Bill Would OK Tesla Dealerships In Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG – State lawmakers got to test-drive a Tesla as part of the car company’s advocacy for a bill to ensure it can sell its vehicles in Pennsylvania. The Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee approved Senate Bill 1409. Current Pennsylvania law prohibits manufacturers like Tesla from also acting as a vehicle dealer. To allow Tesla to sell directly to buyers in Pennsylvania, the bill would allow an electric-vehicle manufacturer to sell its cars under certain conditions, including that it deals exclusively in its own brand. A similar exemption for Saturn was allowed in 2000. Tesla has opened a dealership in King of Prussia.
