Mass Held In Harrisburg For Forgiveness

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG (AP) – As the Vatican expresses “shame and sorrow” over a searing PA grand jury report about child sexual abuse by clergy, a bishop named in the report is holding a Mass for the Forgiveness. The Harrisburg Diocese says today’s mass at the Cathedral Church of Saint Patrick at 212 State Street, Harrisburg, is part of an ongoing need for repentance and healing and concludes with an evening Service of Repentance. The Mass runs now through 7 p.m. The grand jury report found rampant sexual abuse of over 1,000 children by about 300 priests in six Pennsylvania dioceses over seven decades. It criticized Harrisburg Bishop Ronald Gainer for advocating to the Vatican that two abusive priests not be defrocked. The diocese insists Gainer worked to get the men out of the church swiftly after becoming bishop in 2014.
