Unprecedented Improvement In Reading School District

/ WDAC

READING – Calling the changes “unprecedented,” PA Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said his latest performance audit of the Reading School District shows a wholesale turnaround in the district’s governance from five years ago. Auditors tracked the effectiveness of two years’ worth of new policies and procedures. The audit pointed out that bills are now paid appropriately and on time; taxpayer funds are being used correctly and are being properly tracked; and a comprehensive corrective action plan is in place to improve student performance. The audit found officials restructured the district’s debt and saved $11.7 million over 3 years. DePasquale pointed out that challenges remain for the district, but Reading officials are now able to focus on their primary mission of effectively educating students. The audit can be found at PaAuditor.gov.
