Bizarre Behavior Leads To Death Of Ephrata Man

/ WDAC

EPHRATA – Ephrata Police say a man struck and killed along Route 222 south Tuesday night was behaving in a bizarre manner. 24-year-old Carlos Paredes-Pena of Ephrata died at the scene after being hit by a minivan while walking shirtless in the travel lane. The weather at the time was a heavy downpour with low visibility. Police say they were dispatched about 40 minutes earlier to an accident in the 100 block of Ridge Avenue after an SUV hit a curb and became disabled. When police arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied and the driver could not be located. Soon afterward, police responded to the 400 block of Ridge Avenue for a Hispanic male in his 20’s knocking on a door. The male was shirtless with blood on his back. Ephrata Police were unable to locate the man when they arrived. About 20 minutes later, they received the call of a shirtless man on Route 222. Ephrata Police believe the three incidents are related. Their investigation continues.
