PA To Start Pre-Qualifying Residents For Real ID

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvanians who want a drivers’ license that allows them to board commercial airlines after October 1, 2020 and enter certain secure federal buildings can soon get one. PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver & Vehicle Services, Kurt Myers says on Sept. 4, PennDOT will begin pre-qualifying residents to receive a Real ID when they become available next March. Residents who want a Real ID must provide proof of current address, a non-laminated Social Security card, and proof of identification, such as a passport or birth certificate, if they received their first Pennsylvania drivers’ license before September 2003. Getting a Real ID is optional and is not necessary to legally drive. PennDOT is also adding new drivers license centers in Lancaster and Harrisburg. More information can be found at penndot.gov/REALID.
