State Agencies Launch Effort To Protect Highway Responders

/ WDAC

MIDDLETOWN – Five state agencies formalized an inter-agency agreement which launches the Pennsylvania Traffic Incident Management Enhancement program or PennTIME. The goal is to reduce highway incident clearance times and improve first-responder safety while keeping traffic moving. PEMA Director Richard Flinn says the agencies are taking a meaningful step towards improving highway worker and responder safety and making roads safer for all who use them. The PennTIME consortium is made up of PEMA, PennDOT, State Police, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the PA Turnpike Commission. Coordinating traffic-incident management has been challenging because roadways fall under different jurisdictions and involve many responding entities, each with different protocols.
