DePasquale Wants To Fix Fund That Helps First Responders

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG – An audit by PA Auditor General Eugene DePasquale shows the state Department of Health continued its failure to properly oversee the Emergency Medical Services Operating Fund through mid-2017. The fund helps ensure that emergency vehicles are properly equipped so that when EMS are called, they can provide the best life-saving care possible at the scene. DePasquale said he’s been telling Health Department officials that they are not doing enough to ensure the roughly $12 million the fund provides annually is being handled effectively. However, he anticipates improvements under Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine’s leadership after taking over the department last summer, at the end of the audit period. Levine has started making the necessary changes and improvements. DePasquale said he expects his next audit will show major improvement in tracking how the money is spent.
