HARRISBURG – State officials are warning Pennsylvanians of an influx of synthetic drugs into the state and the lethal risks associated with them. Ray Barishansky, Incident Commander for the state Opioid Operational Command Center, says emergency responders, families, and friends of individuals dealing with substance abuse need to be prepared. If you see someone in distress, call 911 first, and don’t try to diagnose and assess what the substance is. Synthetic drugs can cause altered awareness, delusional thinking, violent behavior, anxiety, seizures, and paranoia. Besides dialing 911, residents can also contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 to speak with local experts about synthetic drugs.
