Push To Enhance Work Zone Safety In PA

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG – PA Senate Transportation Committee Chairman, Sen. John Rafferty of Berks & Chester Counties is urging the state House to move legislation intended to enhance work zone safety in the Commonwealth. The measure, which was first introduced in the General Assembly in 2015, is intended to prevent the thousands of work zone mishaps which occur when motorists fail to observe speed limits. Rafferty says Senate Bill 172 allows cameras in those work zones where State Police or local law enforcement can’t be on duty to catch speeders. Union and non-union workers and contractors are supportive of the bill. Language in the bill has been amended several times in the state House and Senate. Rafferty is optimistic that the House will send the bill to the governor later this month.
