Chester County Lawmaker Pushes For Pediatric Cancer Legislation

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG – In recognition of September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Chester County Sen. Andy Dinniman talked about his Senate Bill 572 to improve access to potentially life-saving clinical trials for terminally ill children. Another Dinniman proposal, Senate Bill 576 was amended into House Bill 126 which contains language that clarifies what is considered an inducement for a patient to participate in a cancer clinical trial. The bill would authorize a fund to help families pay for non-medical costs of treatment for those suffering from cancer and other serious, terminal illnesses, such as costs such as transportation, lodging, and loss of income for the parents. Passage of the amendment is needed so that the fund helping parents pay for the non-medical costs of treatment can go forward.
