Two Lancaster Shootings Under Investigation

LANCASTER – Authorities are investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred Sunday night in Lancaster. The first occurred in the 500 block of Pershing Avenue. A neighbor called 9-1-1 around 10 p.m. and reported children were at the home yelling that their father was going to kill their mother and she was being beaten. Police responded and found a man holding a 27-year-old female hostage at gunpoint. The man, identified as 29-year-old Ricardo Avenia, was shot and killed by an officer. Authorities say Avenia lived at the home with the woman and two children. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office at 717-299-8100 and ask to speak with a detective. Later around 10:40 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Green Street. Police found a man with a gunshot wound, who was conscious and walking, and holding a towel on the injury. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. Information as to what lead up to the shooting was limited. The incident was not related to the Pershing Avenue incident. Anyone with information on the Green Street shooting is asked to contact Det.
