Officer-Involved Lancaster Shooting Investigation Continues

LANCASTER – The investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday night in Lancaster is continuing. It happened in the 500 block of Pershing Avenue. A neighbor called 9-1-1 around 10 p.m. and reported children were at the home yelling that their father was going to kill their mother and she was being beaten. Police responded and found a man holding a 27-year-old female hostage at gunpoint. The man, identified as 29-year-old Ricardo Avenia, was shot and killed by an police officer. No shots were fired at police. The gun Avenia possessed was recovered at the scene. Authorities say Avenia lived at the home with the woman and two children. Authorities are specifically interested in any witnesses to the events Sunday night, including what took place earlier in the evening and history of the domestic relationship. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office at 717-299-8100 and ask to speak with a detective.
