Victim Claimed Abuse By Man Fatally Shot By Lancaster Police

/ WDAC

LANCASTER (AP) – The woman being held at gunpoint by a man who was then shot and killed by a police officer in Lancaster alleged in seeking a protection from abuse order that he had abused her for several years. The 27-year-old woman said in the January 2015 PFA order that 29-year-old Ricardo Avenia punched and choked her for years. The order was discontinued because the woman later failed to appear in court. Authorities said a Lancaster Police officer shot and killed Avenia after responding Sunday to the 500 block of Pershing Avenue after a neighbor called 9-1-1 when children were screaming that their father was going to kill their mother. Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman is reviewing the case to determine whether the officer was justified in using lethal force.
