Arrest In Lancaster County Man’s Murder

/ WDAC

WEST CHESTER – Chester County authorities have made an arrest in connection to the murder of a Lancaster County man. 30-year-old Hakeem Smith of Oxford is charged in the September 13 shooting death of 31-year-old Sam Algarin of Quarryville. Algarin’s body was discovered on the side of Limestone Road in West Fallowfield Township. His vehicle, wallet, and cell phone were all missing. Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said police checked surveillance cameras in surrounding businesses and found a video from a Turkey Hill that showed Smith arriving in Algarin’s GMC Terrain. Police later recovered the abandoned vehicle in Westtown Township, Chester County, on September 16. Police found blood on the driver’s seat and seatbelt harness. They also found Smith’s palmprint on one of the windows. They later found Algarin’s phone with Smith’s fingerprint on it discarded in a field about two miles from where his body was found. Smith was taken into custody yesterday after being spotted by police, fleeing into a residence, and later surrendering to the West Chester SWAT Team. Smith is charged with murder, robbery, and related offenses. He is being held in Chester County Prison. Hogan called the murder “senseless and cold-blooded” saying Smith needed a vehicle and money, so he killed an innocent victim.
