Mother/Son Charged In Lancaster County Church Robbery

/ WDAC

EPHRATA – Two people were arrested in connection with the robbery of a Lancaster County church. Police responded Wednesday to a burglary not in progress at Trinity Lutheran Church in the 100 block of East Main Street in Ephrata. Church staff reported while they were at lunch, someone entered the church offices and took items from the building. Authorities obtained surveillance footage from the area, where they saw a male and female entering the church between 11 and 11:30 a.m. Officers later observed two people matching the description of those on the surveillance video walking in the 500 block of South State Street. Police stopped the two and upon further investigation discovered they were involved with the burglary. The stolen items were recovered and police arrested 39-year-old Gwendolyn Eckert and her son, 20-year-old Tyler, both of whom are homeless. Gwendolyn Eckert was also wanted by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department on an outstanding warrant. Both were taken for arraignment on the burglary and conspiracy charges.
