Allowing The Use Of Epi-Pens By Police

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG – State and local police would be able to carry, administer or assist in the administration of epinephrine auto-injectors or epi-pens under a proposed bill. Under House Bill 2674, police departments could acquire and stock epi-pens. Officers wishing to carry them would be required to undergo training. Fayette County Rep. Ryan Warner sponsored the measure after his 4-year-old son had a severe allergic reaction. He called 9-1-1 and while police responded, there was nothing the officer could do while they waited 25 minutes for an ambulance. Warner said if police can carry NARCAN to save the life of a person overdosing on opioids, they should be permitted to carry medication needed to save the life of a child or adult suffering a severe allergic reaction.
