Emergency Responder Insurance Bill Before PA House Panel

HARRISBURG – The PA House Labor and Industry Committee held a public hearing to examine legislation designed to ensure that emergency responders have adequate insurance coverage. York County Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill is the prime sponsor of the measure. House Bill 1909 would help rebuild an ailing emergency responder force by reassuring volunteers that they would be covered for any harm that may result from the performance of their duties. The bill was prompted by an incident involving a member of a local fire company who was denied coverage following an accident at a local carnival. Phillips-Hill added that the number of volunteer emergency responders are on the decline and this is one way to keep and encourage such volunteers.
