Anti-Hazing Bill Passes PA House

/ WDAC

HARRISBURG – The PA House approved an anti-hazing measure. Senate Bill 1090 was named in memory of Tim Piazza, who died after a February 2017 fraternity pledge event at Penn State. The bill, introduced by Centre County Sen. Jake Corman, increases penalties for those involved in hazing, requires schools to have policies and reporting procedures in place to stop hazing, and ensures that parents and students are provided with information related to the issue. It also establishes clear-cut parameters on hazing for organizations such as fraternities and sororities. The Piazza family has been seeking such legislation. The House amended the legislation, meaning it will return to the state Senate for approval. Corman said he will bring up the bill for consideration next week.
