Charges Filed In Lancaster County Fatal Pedestrian Crash

/ WDAC

LANCASTER – A Lancaster County man is charged with being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when he struck and killed a female pedestrian near his home last month. Police charged 31-year-old Craig Gomez Jr. of Ronks with vehicular homicide while DUI and related counts regarding the Sept. 15 crash in the 2500 block of Siegrist Road in East Lampeter Township. 82-year-old Thelma Rineer of Ronks was killed as she walked westbound on the south berm of the road. Police determined Gomez, traveling east, was eating a breakfast sandwich when he veered into the grass and struck Rineer. She died at the scene. Blood testing revealed marijuana and alcohol in Gomez’s system. Gomez is currently in Lancaster County Prison.
